the high dials

last night I saw The High Dials at Velvet Lounge in DC. despite it being one of my least favorite venues in DC, ask me, I’ll tell you why…they brought some beautiful swirling pop sounds to the stage.

this is probably my favorite pic I snapped up last night.

on a little side note, in a strange matter of events, earlier this year, I happened to notice that Trevor of The High Dials, just might be the same guy I met back in december 1995 in Montreal when Noise Museum played there. His band was called The Sea Beggars then. I emailed Trevor and sure enough it was the same person! Sometimes I really amaze myself of what I remember. it’s pretty strange.

On top of seeing him and his new band, I also saw some other familiar faces from The Phobes, who once played atlantic city.

I’m barely recovering from getting in so late and drinking a few beers.

saw a great set from them tonight at IOTA. patti smith meets bettie seveert meets L7. nothing fancy just hard core full on rock n roll with a female guitar/singer. they totally brought the rock to arlington this lovely monday night.

I haven’t left clarendon yet, as I’m at my office, just chillin’ for now. a bit surreal, but I suppose I should go home now, since I must return in 9 hours. I love early nights, that way I can still get a decent night’s sleep.

I must be getting old!

I’ve been going through some old pictures and loading them up to my flickr site. Most of the pictures I have of McGuire’s in Atlantic city aren’t digital but I did snap a few.

This pic of my friends Wayne and Sean in 2001 is classic! Little did we know it was the beginning of the end of The Pit (McGuire’s), the place will never be the same again.

Nic Armstrong and The Thieves were at Black Cat last night and I’m so glad I was there. fun set, made me want to dance, even though there was no one to dance with me.

amazingly nice boys, and ever so charming.

I haven’t been able to keep up with much lately, as it’s been work and work, and recovery, and just haven’t felt up to doing anything.

a visit to the dentist last week, which was basically surgery to implant a new tooth has left me in lots of pain, but I’m finally starting to feel better.

as a result, I skipped Ben Lee Friday night and opted for Percocet which gave me strange dreams.

Saturday I went and saw “The Boys and Girl from County Clare” as part of Filmfest DC. It’s always a bit strange going solo to a film, but I’ll soldier on if it’s something I really want to see and do. The movie was wonderful and very much made me want to go home and play my fiddle!

I’ve got to keep up with the posts, I’ll try my best.
