It’s about time the weather has started acting like Spring. It’s beautiful out today and I had a great lunch time walk, been spinning some Carroway tunes old and new which keeps a smile on my face.

Tonight we managed to surprise Scott with cake on stage at the Carroway show. I was a bit nervous as I wasn’t sure how he’d react and the whole logistics of it all. very stressful evening tonight was. I was a bit reluctant to help out with Mike’s plan, but he asked. I took my lunch break to go to the supermarket and get a cake. This included a phone conversation with Mike while standing in the supermarket bakery.
I wasn’t sure what to put on it but my mind ran with ideas from the get-go, and included some red food dye ‘blood’ drizzling down the side ala ‘Salem Serial Killer’ (an inside joke.) I decided to just go with my instincts and decorate away!
Coordinating with the bartenders, and getting the cake ready, candles lit, and successfully getting it safely to the stage were a whole other story. I was insanely and nervously shaking while carrying it and the whole time it was really surreal.
On top of that, I was nervous about helping the guys out with sound. It was a team effort and they sounded great, better than any other band that night. I barely remember what songs they played.
wow, I should be passed out in my bed, just got in from ambler, PA after Carroway’s first show up that way. wish more people had been there but what can you do? I’m glad I went, even though I was exhausted before we left at 4pm and I also started the trip completely soaking wet after getting caught in a torrential downpour (it was raining SIDEWAYS!) and had a wool sweater on. wool when it gets wet does NOT smell all that good.
maybe I should try and sleep now.
Tried once again to flip back and forth between IOTA and Galaxy Hut, but it didn’t really work. Janice and I did stop by the hut for a few songs of one of the Teenbeat bands, but wanted to make sure we were at IOTA to see Scott and his mega 10 minute set. 15 songwriters in one night, a bit rough and hard to handle, but managed just fine. I somehow stayed until the very end, so did Scott. I’m really glad I did, as I was able to talk with some people and get to know more of the people doing the great musical stuff in the DC/Arlington area.
ugh, gotta get up early for a saturday to meet with andy and robin about andy’s film we’re working on.
I still haven’t really recovered from last weekend. It’s been a busy week so far. just trying to adjust and prepare for all that is going on. Spring-like weather makes the calendar fill up fast. Lots of shows happening, lots of CDs being released and lots of traveling for me.
I can’t complain, it’s stuff like this that rocks my world!
tomorrow night: Grant Lee Phillips or the Teenbeat Anniversary show, or BOTH?!
I must sleep!!!!!!
