since the shows in DC sold out before even thinking about going, Andy and I went up to Camden to see the Pixies reunion tour there. I spent most of Sunday morning listening to ‘Doolittle!’ We had to plan ahead through three NFL football games: Redskins here in DC, Ravens in Baltimore and Eagles in Philly. We got to Philly around 5:30pm with plenty of time to kill. I figured it was better to find some grub in Philly than in Camden.

At any rate, South Street was relatively quiet and has changed so much since I was last there. Anymore when I’m in Philly, the closest to South St. I get is Khyber!

I took Andy to Jim’s for cheesesteak that was unusually sub-par, but I was so hungry I didn’t care. We wandered around the street and ended up in Spaceboy records. A new store to me, as I’ve hardly ever shopped in Philly after 3rd St. closed. I picked up the Frausdots and Jason Collett cds (which I’ve been wanting for awhile). I went upstairs to the used cd section, but only to tell Andy I was ready to go. If I stayed there one more second, It surely would’ve been deadly. I would start browsing and then the calls would begin. The pleading of used cds that are very worthy of good homes and I’d feel guilty leaving them there in the dusty bins. It’s an addiction.

Some more wandering up the street and back…I’m pleased to see many record shops there now, we noticed the increase of sex shops, and it’s sad to see so many corporate yuppie stores…..a sign o’ the times, I suppose. They knock down history for more glass and hardwood floors.

We finally headed over the river to Tweeter Center and I can firmly say I won’t ever want to see a show there again. It’s been around for a long time, but this was the first and last show I’ll see there. It’s a poor setup and for most part the sound sucked. I prefer smaller clubs anyhow and the largest Philly area venue I like most is TLA. The Bennies were interesting, The Datsuns were fun and I enjoyed some parts of their songs, but they were WAY too long.

Pixies were a complete blast and played everything we figured they would and even played some songs twice, particularly their version of ‘Head On’ which was absolutely incredible the second time around.

I’m still recovering from getting in after 3am this morning. thankfully, I didn’t have to work. Andy did, which sucked for him.
